ALL ABOUT EGOr Learning how to ignore your ego.
This program is about the ego, disdainfully named EGOr to give it a label. EGOr lives in our minds and tries to convince us that our worth comes from what we do, what we own, and what we achieve. Notice the caricature of EGOr is all mouth. Appropriately so as it never stops feeding us a dialog about what we should or shouldn’t, could or couldn’t be doing. We spend a lifetime defending what we do, what we have, what people think of us, why we are different, and what we believe. All of this is the ego’s big mouth...it rules the world.
Most people are not even aware of EGOr, or if they are, it lives in their secrets, so the purpose of this program is to expose it as the cunning lier that it is. By becoming aware of EGOr’s voice, we can teach ourselves to doubt it, ignore it, and ultimately silence it. Each of the songs selects a topic for personal identification and discussion. The workbook is designed for a group to answer the questions together and share their experiences. The more you are involved in a group effort to expose the ego, the more effective you will be in learning how to silence EGOr (The collective ego in us all).
Many times in the music you will hear words referencing God or Lord, or even devil. We do not wish to inject any relegion into this program. These words are about faith in a fullfilling life through something greater. Determining what “something greater” means to you will be your task. Our intent is only to discuss the negative voice that keeps us from finding our life’s purpose...what keeps us from joy! Our own ego in combination with everyone elses.
The songs were written to help the songwriter through the early years of recovery from Alcoholism. They are reflections of her character defects and new found hope. An awareness of EGOr, and it’s voice in the lyrics, came years after the songs were finished, making the songwriter understand that the melodies and lyrics had come through her, not from her. Now it is shared with you. Take what you want...leave the rest.
